“You Are Ugly And Stupid”- Instagram Says No To Bullying With This New Feature!

When Taylor Swift feud drama with Kim K and Kanye West 2 years ago spread around, people started to throw bad remarks and left  snake emojis comment on her Instagram page. She was so hurt with the comments to the point that she ‘unfollowed’ everyone and literally took a break from the media industry for 2 years.

But, celebrities aren’t the one facing this cyberbully issue, at some point in our life, we all faced the same thing, bodyshaming, faceshaming and all kinds of sexiest remarks on social media  that left us..literally, powerless.

Cyberbullying on Instagram has become a serious major issue to the point that it effects someone’s lives, one of the high profile cases involving cyberbullying on Instagram is  the suicide case of British teenager, Molly Russell who took her own life after dealing with depression from cyberbullying!

Introduces Restrict

In the official blog post, Instagram Head, Adam Mosseri announced their decision to introduce this new anti bullying feature, called Restrict.

      How it actually works

Once a user has been restricted, their comments will appear only to themselves. A restricted person will not know they have been restricted.

“You can choose to make a restricted person’s comments visible to others by approving their comments,” Mr Mosseri explained.

“Restricted people won’t be able to see when you’re active on Instagram or when you’ve read their direct messages.”

Not just that, but Instagram will also introduced a new filter to make people rethink  their comments. This newly built designed literally preventing people from leaving harsh comment without thinking.

In one example, a person types “you are so ugly and stupid”, only to be interrupted with a notice saying: “Are you sure you want to post this? Learn more”.

If the user taps “learn more”, a notice informs: “We are asking people to rethink comments that seem similar to others that have been reported.”

Instagram is definitely making a smart move with this new feature. And those bullies and keyboard warriors will definitely leave shooketh!

After all, bullying is NOT okay. Plus, we STAN with Queen Taytay!
