No tribute to a star is sweeter than that which honours his most memorable acts on the silver screen, and this applies to Hong Kong’s martial arts icon Donnie Yen, too.

The popular actor, best known for playing legendary kung-fu master Ip Man in the 2008 biopic of the same name, recently received a spell-binding tribute from 35,000 kung-fu exponents in conjunction with his 55th birthday.

Yen uploaded a recent video of the tribute on his official Instagram page, and was mesmerised by the students’ formation of the word “big brother” in Chinese characters at a public park in Beijing, China.

“It’s a truly magnificent, once-in-a-lifetime moment, an honour seldom experienced by actors. Thank you all for your wonderful performance, warm welcome, respect and support. Thank you for your hours and weeks of hard work organising this special tribute. Love you, China!” said Yen in his caption to the video.

More than 600 Netizens hailed the students for their glorious tribute to Yen, and also took the opportunity to wish him a happy belated birthday.

“You’re a real inspiration, Donnie,” said Konkwo.

“Truly amazing. Happy birthday Donnie,” said Ben.

“I love all your fantastic movies and I can’t wait to see the next one. Many happy returns, Donnie,” said Michael.

Yen turned 55 on July 27 and is currently filming Ip Man 4 in the United Kingdom.
